Mr. Pooran Chandra Pandey, General Secretary of the Foundation for Development Initiatives (FDI), introduces FDI as a leading climate NGO in India in his article for Climate Scorecard.

The Foundation for Development Initiatives (FDI) is a national non-governmental organization in India dedicated to climate resilience and sustainability. Since its establishment in 2000, FDI has grown into a prominent pan-India entity, collaborating with organizations like UNICEF, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, NatWest Group, and others. FDI focuses on various areas including climate resilience, air pollution, health, climate education, water, sanitation, and precision agriculture, supporting communities in adaptation and mitigation efforts.

Under the leadership of Mr Vijay Singh, FDI is governed by a diverse board, with significant representation of women. The organization’s funding comes from both national and international partners, supporting programs that leverage technology and innovation to reduce CO2 emissions and promote sustainable practices. FDI aims to help India achieve its climate pledges, including reducing emissions by 50% and installing 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Financially self-sustaining with an annual funding of INR 3.25 Crore, FDI aims to double its funding by expanding its work plan and geographic reach. FDI shares common goals with Climate Scorecard, particularly in policy advocacy and reporting on climate issues.
