Empowering Girls and Young Women Through Sports
The Veerangana Sports Initiative is a flagship programme dedicated to empowering girls and young women through the transformative power of sports. Implemented in Hisar, Haryana, the initiative aims to break social barriers, promote gender equality, and create safe, inclusive spaces where girls can develop confidence, leadership, and resilience while pursuing sports and physical fitness.
Despite growing awareness, many girls in rural and semi-urban communities continue to face limited opportunities to participate in sports due to inadequate infrastructure, lack of resources, and prevailing social norms. The Veerangana Sports Initiative addresses these challenges by providing access to quality sports facilities, coaching, equipment, and mentorship, enabling girls to participate, compete, and excel.
The project collaborates with schools, colleges, local communities, sports professionals, government institutions, and CSR partners to strengthen grassroots sports development. Through regular training sessions, sports competitions, fitness programmes, leadership workshops, and community engagement activities, the initiative nurtures both athletic talent and essential life skills.
Beyond improving physical fitness, the programme encourages discipline, teamwork, determination, self-confidence, and decision-making abilities. It also promotes awareness of health, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, mental well-being, and the importance of an active lifestyle, contributing to the holistic development of adolescent girls and young women.
